WHO ARE WE?

WHO ARE WE?

We were all living together in harmony before all this happened
We were playing together because that what makes us happen
We cried together for all the things that happened to us
We comforted each other and re-assured one another that it will never happen
They came from the North running because after so many years, it happened
They came with nothing but clothes on their backs hoping to make things happen

We were free but fighting for our brothas and sistas who were fighting against HIV/AIDS
We were free but fighting this endless crime and poverty which perpetuated HIV/AIDS
We sang songs of freedom and rejoiced in the unity and the rainbow nation because it was here
We are here repeating the same thing just in a different format
We forgot the pain we felt when we lost our people in the fight for freedom
Or it’s the hate that was never addressed that is messing with our freedom?
Two wrongs have never made a right and that distorts our freedom
Do you know her name or just the face bcz this person is displaced
Can you relate or remember the images from the oppressors or have you forgotten?

How can you forget when Hector Pieterson was shot at just 12 years?
How can you forget when Steven Biko was killed at just 30?
How can you forget the teargas smell and the detentions that were not justified?
How can you forget the peasant’s revolt where hundreds were killed in their homeland?
How can you forget Zimbambwe, the elections that are still pending?
How can you forget the Kenya elections, the Rwanda genocide, the Congo civil war, the Somalian war?
Do you know her name or is it just the foreigners face that bugs you?
Do you know her story or is it the fact that she works hard to look after her family that worries you?
Do you know what makes her cry? Or is it the fact that she has to be strong for her children that puzzles you?
Africa belongs to all that live in it, black or white – read the freedom charter..
